Limbband

Ornamentation of the body and objects have been the origin of the plastic arts. From antiquity to today, humans have sought to adorn themselves and their surroundings. The reasons vary: sometimes it is symbolic or as a demonstration of authority, power or self expression; sometimes it is to enact order upon nature; sometimes it is for the sheer joy of embellishment. Whether the ornament is figurative or abstract, all design begins with patterns.
Students produced a patterned 3D-printed band sized to their individual limbs as a vehicle through which to explore and learn advanced curve and surface geometries, as well as test the potentials of 3D printing.
